I have just replaced my cherished CasioLA-670WA-1 wristwatch with precisely the same watch, for a total bill of $20.91; I do this every few years. I just went shopping online trying to find a more upscale version, but alas. It's just the same-old. Two obvious questions:
1) Why am I buying a new one, if it's identical to the old one? The answer is that unfortunately CASIO batteries are hard to replace, and the few times I've tried have been unsuccessful. I've been wearing the same watch for probably 12 years, and every two or so, I must go through this ritual. For awhile I sent the watches to central PA and paid $15 + shipping for the new battery, since from an environmental stand point it bothered me to replace the whole watch. That store stopped selling this service, so it's back to buying new watches for the same price as repairing one. DUMB!!
2) What is source of my devotion to this particular watch? It certainly is not its appearance or its durability!
I love this watch's countdown timer. Its countdown timer can be set to go off after 1,2,5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes. It is incredibly useful for remembering things (though when the timer goes off, I don't always remember why I set it....), cooking, and a myriad of other indispensable uses. Even though the watch is plebeian, I am unwilling to part with it, so I just keep replacing it when the battery goes.
I do think it's amazing that no other manufacturers have figured this out. I guess they don't cook pasta.
Lest you think there is no choice in this matter, there is an even cheaper version of the watch with a black plastic strap. It will set you back about $12.

I had that watch many years ago -- sometimes in navy blue and sometimes in black -- and loved it. Then the stores I bought it at stopped carrying Casio...
I've been buying the black version for the very same reasons for probably 15 to 20 years. Every now and then I can get a replacement battery to work, and sometimes I need to replace the straps, but as long as they keep making this watch I'll keep buying it ever few years.
I love buying things that are "tried and true" for me, regardless of price. I do this with things that are inexpensive (e.g. underwear), and things that are pricey (e.g. running shoes). The real savings is the time not spent on hunting for something new.
I have to admit that I had a bad run of luck with Casios and stopped using them long ago. Since then, I've been very partial to Ironman watches, especially with the Indiglo feature for excellent reading at night. They're more expensive, but I get the cheapest ones because they're not too fancy to be overwhelming. They're perfectly priced and waterproof for when I do sports events, but don't need much more than a timer. Like the anonymous poster, these watches are tried and true for me and I'll probably never buy another brand.
